Overview of UCAS
UCAS is the centralized application service for undergraduate courses in the UK. It allows students to apply to up to five courses (at different universities or the same university) using a single application.
Key Dates and Deadlines for 2025 Entry:
- 15 October 2024 (18:00 UK time): Deadline for applications to the University of Oxford, University of Cambridge, and most courses in medicine, dentistry, and veterinary medicine/science. UCAS
- 29 January 2025 (18:00 UK time): Equal consideration deadline for applications to most undergraduate courses. Applications received after this date may still be considered, but universities are not obligated to do so. UCAS
- 26 February 2025: UCAS Extra opens for applicants who have used all five choices and are not holding any offers. This service allows applicants to add another choice to their application. UCAS
- 30 June 2025 (18:00 UK time): Final deadline for applications. Applications received after this date are automatically entered into Clearing. UCAS
- 4 July 2025: Last date to add a choice through UCAS Extra. UCAS
- 5 July 2025: Clearing opens for eligible applicants, and vacancies are displayed in UCAS’ search tool. UCAS
- 20 October 2025: Last date to add a Clearing choice. UCAS
Steps in the UCAS Application Process:
- Research Courses and Universities: Utilize the UCAS website and individual university sites to explore courses and entry requirements. Consider factors such as course content, university location, rankings, and career prospects.
- Create a UCAS Account: Register on the UCAS website and provide personal details, including name, date of birth, nationality, and contact information.
- Complete the Application Sections:
- Personal Information: Include address, nationality, residency status, and any disability or special needs.
- Choices: Select up to five course choices (can be at the same or different universities).
- Education: List all qualifications (completed and pending) such as GCSEs, A-Levels, IB, or international equivalents.
- Employment: Add any paid work experience, including job titles, employers, and start/end dates.
- Personal Statement: A 4,000-character essay to demonstrate interest in the chosen subject, relevant skills, experiences, achievements, and future aspirations.
- Reference: Provide the name and contact details of a referee (usually a teacher, counselor, or tutor) who will write a supporting letter for your application.
- Pay the Application Fee: £27.50 for multiple course choices; £22 for a single choice. Payment is made directly through the UCAS system.
- Submit the Application: Review all sections carefully before submission and ensure the application is submitted before the relevant deadline.
After Submitting Your Application:
- Receiving Offers: Universities may make an unconditional offer (accepted regardless of future grades), a conditional offer (accepted if specific conditions are met), or reject the application.
- Replying to Offers: Choose one Firm Choice (first preference) and one Insurance Choice (backup, often with lower entry requirements). Decline any remaining offers.
- UCAS Extra: If all five choices are used and no offers are held, applicants can apply to additional universities through UCAS Extra, which opens in February.
- Results Day and Clearing: If conditions for Firm or Insurance Choices are not met, use Clearing to find available courses. If exceeding conditions, use UCAS Adjustment to apply for more competitive courses.

- Proof of English proficiency (e.g., IELTS, TOEFL).
- Passport copy.
- Academic transcripts.
- Personal statement and reference letter.
